Assam Engineering Institute,  a premier Technical Institution in the North East Region was established in the year 1948 by Government of Assam. It is affiliated to State Council for Technical Education(SCTE), Assam. All diploma programme run by the Institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE).

The campus of Assam Engineering Institute is located in the heart of the city with about 12 hectares of land. The Institute offers three years diploma courses in 6 streams &  various short-term courses under different departments. The faculty members of the Institute are highly qualified. All the departments of the institute have facilities of modern Laboratories and computers.

The infrastructure of the Institute includes two multi-storied buildings along with four Assam type structures for administration and academic purposes. The Institute has 3 boys hostels which include one SC/ST hostel sponsored by Government of India & one girls hostel with one woman hostel sponsored by MHRD, Government of India.

The Institute is working to meet the industry needs by creating skilledman-power in collaboration with TATA technologies, NELIT and Toyota.
